Emergency crews are still battling multiple wildfires across parts of Wales as the country endures a sustained wildland-fire season fuelled by drought and heat.
Welsh fire services have faced a high number of simultaneous incidents through the summer, with blazes from Conwy Mountain to Blaenavon stretching resources. A Welsh Government written statement on August 14 provided an update on wildfire status and the deployment of military support to assist crews on the ground.
The National Fire Chiefs Council said firefighters responded to 966 wildfires across England and Wales this year, including 185 in the first 10 days of August alone, as prolonged dry conditions left moorland and grassland tinder-dry.
Residents, landowners and visitors have been urged not to undertake any activity that could start a fire — including disposable barbecues, firepits, garden incinerators or fireworks — after an emergency alert warned of the risk.
