A 16-year-old boy has died after collapsing in a river in Scotland. Police Scotland have named him as Kenzie Carmichael.
What happened
Officers were called at 7.35pm on Wednesday after a report that a teenager had collapsed near The Boathouse on Nith Avenue, close to the River Nith in Dumfries. Kenzie’s body was recovered from the water, Police Scotland said.
What police said
Detective Inspector Scott Wilson said: “Kenzie’s family and friends are devastated and it’s vital we get them answers for how he died.”
He added that officers do not believe the circumstances are suspicious, or “that Kenzie, or anyone else present, had been playing within the river”.
Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward, saying it “could be crucial in helping us establish the full circumstances of Kenzie’s death”.
